Essen at the Pinnacle: High Class Food Court hidden among High Class HDB

Can't afford to stay in CBD area? No problem! Now you can have dinner alongside rich folks who do, thanks to Essen. 


While peasants like me head down to the nearby kopitiam to dabao some economical rice and milo peng, the residents here have a food court and bar selling atas western food and alcohol. Same people not same life (同人不同命)

We came here after reading about Burger Buddies from other inferior food blogs, but there are plenty of other tempting alternatives if you don't happen to be a burger slut.

Mushroom Beef Burger $14.90 (with sunny side up $1)

Oh my oh my.. just by looking at the creamy mushroom sauce you know this is going to be good. Peeking out from underneath like a shy little virgin, is a juicy beef patty covered in a blanket of cheese and then topped with a beautifully fried egg with runny yolk. The arugula and thick sesame bun complimented the tangy sauce really well, while the cook-to-order fries were also hot and crisp. Finishing it left me feeling completely satiated, which is not usually the case for "gourmet burgers".

Salted Egg Yolk Wings (6 pieces) $12.50

We also heard good things about Two Wings and their special sauces. The first bite will leave you surprised at how crispy and delicate the skin is, while the salted egg yolk sauce is thick, creamy and perfectly spiced with curry leaves.

Chili Crab Wings (6 pieces) $12.50

The chili crab version came generously doused with spicy, eggy and tomato-ey sauce that Jumbo seafood would have been proud of. Be prepared for a kick, as there are chili padi seeds camouflaged in the sauce waiting to punch your taste buds in the face.

Although lacking your usual teh o and kopi siew dai, the bar offers some exotic ciders. 

Toffee Apple Cider $15

Sweet apple cider with a fragrant hint of caramel. Overpriced yes, but since you're at an atas place... don't so gei gao lah. Or even better, use the money to get yourself another burger.
