Playmade 丸作: New Bubble Tea On The Block
Ladies and gentlemen, Playmade 丸作 is finally here in Singapore! Never heard of them? Yeah me neither, but apparently they are pretty well known in Taiwan for their flavoured balls, so yay!
Their unique balls, featuring pink cactus and burnt caramel, are all freshly made in store. Each topping costs an additional 80 cents, but the generous servings of custom made pearls are worth it. The drinks are priced similarly to their rivals in general, except for their signature drink. Holy shit, $6.60 for a medium cup of bubble tea? Are you kidding me? Which idiot would actually buy that grapefruit yakult drink that costs as much as a cup of starbucks?
Grapefruit Yakult Green Tea with Pink Cactus Jelly $7.40 (M)
Yes, that idiot is me, but i did it so that you won't have to. I enjoyed the pulpy chunks of grapefruit, while the yakult accentuated the already sour concoction. The pink cactus jelly tasted like mini gummy bears, bouncy and fruity, which went well with the drink. Is it worth the $6.60? Probably not, as you could achieve the same taste by combining a minute maid juice with some yakult, but pregnant women will love this beverage. And why is this photo taken at a karaoke you ask? Well, i can't think of a more appropriate place to suck on some balls.

Taiwan Green Milk Tea with Black Sesame Pearls $3.70 (M)
The green milk tea was pretty mediocre as with most milk teas in Singapore that just can't hold a candle to Taiwan's. The black sesame balls were interesting and tasted like many tiny balls of tang yuan. It garnered a split opinion though, my buddy was bemused by the weird combination, while i thought it was a great upgrade on the traditional pearls.

While we are waiting for Gong Cha's revival and laughing off any attempts by LiHo to stay relavant, it's a great time to give Playmade a try. So why wait? Head down to the superior part of SG, Tampines and suck on some balls now.
