Thai Luang: Affectionately Known As Koufu Thai Food

Sawadeekrap. Thai food at Ubi Koufu aroi mak mak krap. I was considering typing the whole post in broken Thai when i realised my vocabulary is too limited. The only other phrase i know is "pao pao mai" which means.. wait.. we still talking about food?

Thanks to my previous job working around the area, we got to know this gem of a place serving up authentic Thai dishes at $4-5 each. The uncle taking orders may be a tad cranky, but watching the chefs cook up a storm through the small kitchen window is a real treat.

Mountain of Chicken Cutlet $8
Why visit a ping pong show when you can get more satisfaction out of devouring a mountain of fried chicken? The batter was crispy and well seasoned while the meat was juicy and tender. Goes perfectly with the accompanying Thai chili sauce that will burn your tongue and make your nose drip, just like the spice levels of Bangkok.

Tom Yum Soup $5
A comforting bowl of sour and spicy soup that goes well with rice. The amount of prawns, crabstick and squid added was generous considering the price. Very appetising.

Omelette $4
I don't know what Thai chefs add to their omelettes but they are just that much better. Fragrantly enhanced with a dash of fish sauce and minced pork to provide better texture, this thick, oily, almost quiche like egg dish was one of the stars of the show. So good that i am almost convinced the secret ingredient is cocaine.

Spicy Kang Kong $4
A classic vegetable dish, enhanced by the fragrance of deep fried onions and garlic, but sadly loses out to the standard hae bee hiam version. Packs a punch from the small chillies too.

Sour Pork Salad $5
I love how unassuming this dish looks but it never fails to disappoint. The onions and sour sauce will shock your tastebuds awake, and this contrasts well with the thin slices of pork. I could inhale a whole bowl of rice just with this.

Thailand fact!: The value of the sex industry in Thailand is estimated at US$4.3 billion a year. How is this related to food? It isn't.
