Marco Marco: Italian Feast at Millenia Walk

Hi i am eatify and i am a pastaholic. Yes, i am addicted to pasta, so much so that when we passed by Marco Marco who specialises in Italian fare, my legs switched on autopilot mode and went to get a seat.

As Millenia walk is pretty much a ghost town during both weekdays and weekends, finding a seat at this casual restaurant is as easy as 1, 2, c.

The menu is heavily inspired by city names, which was intriguing yet intimidating at the same time as fusion pasta usually goes south for me. There's also the option of adding $2 to make it gluten free for all the hipsters looking to #eatclean.

The Palermo (Ham, Mushroom, Truffle Oil) $16
Pizza to kick start the meal and it was pretty good. A decent amount of toppings, crispy thin crust, and the presence of truffle oil was so distinct that i forgave them for using cheapo ham.

The Alba (Truffle Mushroom Ragout) $13
At first glance this pasta did not look appealing, and in this case, you can judge a book by its cover. Severly lacking in the truffle's aroma, it tasted pretty average and i certainly would not order it again. A pretty disappointing plate, but at least we had 2 more chances.

The Roma (Creamless Carbonara) $13
They weren't kidding when they said it was creamless, but it should have indicated that it was sauceless and tasteless as well. The noodles were only seasoned by a single egg yolk and tasted really bland apart from the tiny bacon bits. Even after spamming a shit load of parmesan cheese powder over and still tasting like pasta blanched with plain water, we declared this dish unsalvageable.
2 / 10 (purely because of a pretty egg yolk)

The Singapore (Prawns and Laksa Cream) $13
Alas, our final salvation shone through. The creamy laksa sauce and pasta went extremely well together, with the taupok and crunchy prawns playing the supporting role perfectly. The lemakness of this dish was a delight and this is a shining example of fusion cooking done right.
7.5 / 10

Buffalo Wings $6
4 pieces of wings that tasted no better than CP's frozen wings. Not that spicy and not that buffalo-ey. It's ok but definitely not worth shelling out 6 bucks for.
5.5 / 10

I do believe Marco Marco has lots of room for improvement, especially the carbonara that seriously needs to be reworked. Their staff were also unfamiliar with handling cashier duties and service slowed to a crawl as a result, but it is a relatively new establishment and such implications can be forgiven. If they could whip up more dishes as delectable as that laksa linguine, Millenia Walk would be filled with pasta lovers in no time.

Italian Food Fact!: Everytime someone orders a carbonara at Marco Marco, an Italian dies.
