Li Xing Nasi Lemak: Fragrant Rice and Insanely Good Fried Chicken

There is always a dilemma when stepping inside the food haven of Amoy Food Centre. One of the hawker centres with more diverse food options, it is unsurprising to see the place swarmed by hordes of hungry zombies in business attire before 11.30am, and getting a table would prove as challenging as finding a girlfriend.

To get a taste of Li Xing Nasi Lemak, i outsmarted the lunch crowd with my wits. Ok i just showed up at 11am (which took alot of effort on my part) and there was no line in sight. The above picture was taken 15 mins after i ordered my plate, with the queue extending exponentially. Is it you all no need to work can come down so early to eat nasi lemak?

Nasi Lemak without Egg  $4
Although there wasn't a queue when i arrived, they had already ran out of sunny side ups and ikan bilis. What is nasi lemak without eggs? What is life? I considered returning home right then and there, but because of the uncle's expectant gaze, i managed to pull myself together and order an eggless nasi lemak.

Let's begin with the 2 most important stars of the show. Fluffy and fragrant, the coconut rice was the perfect mattress for the toppings and is good enough on its own. But what makes it really shine is the chili sauce that comes with it, which was mildly sweet and packs a wild punch. Their otah was decent although i would have preferred it to be thicker. Fish fillet is fish fillet which doesn't warrant the $1 price, but i loved the luncheon meat for that daily dose of unhealthiness #eatdirty.

And finally we come to the chicken drumstick. Freshly deep fried, the first bite blew me away as i was caught off guard by how yummy it was. Besides the crunchy and extremely aromatic skin, the meat also retained its juices and oils, making every mouthful a step into chicken heaven. I believe they would give KFC a run for their money if they opened a fried chicken chain. So good.
